menstruation Question & Answer

No. A girl cannot get pregnant if only the lips on her face touch the lips on his face. Being completely clothed also helps.

For a woman to get pregnant it requires a couple things; a person who menstruates and a person who creates sperm. To get pregnant, the sperm from a man must meet the egg of a woman. Usually this is done via penis-in-vagina sexual intercourse but it can be done using just the two ingredients in a lab.

Having your period means the uterine lining your body has created to receive a fertilized egg is shedding out of your body. It takes the next roughly 28 days to make and shed another ?nest? the next month.

If you are just putting your lips together then you?re fine, it doesn?t matter what time in your cycle.

Can you get pregnant from what you described? Sure. Not using a condom, not taking your bc pill according to instructions, ejaculate on your vulva (not to mention, there's always the possibility of semen in the pre-cum), it's possible.

If you don't want to get pregnant, then use protection/birth control at all times.

Thank you for the A2A

You didn't specify which day or days you had intercourse nor did you say if you used any form of birth control.

You know what, Just assume yes, there is always a possibility to get pregnant if you are engaging in penis in vagina intercourse and you're not using a condom or any birth control.

While the risk of pregnancy is highest when you ovulate, there is just no way to be certain you won't be that one time so get empowered to protect yourself.

If you're having sex with a penis owner they literally could care less if you get pregnant. They're not the ones who potentially have to carry a baby for 9 months. You have to be responsible and protect you, your body, and your future.

They're the ones who want to have sex with you so begin to set the rules and boundaries you will accept for sexual interactions.

You want a condom Insist on it.

They don't want to wear one? You can find someone who will.

You don't want to have intercourse and would prefer to do something else? Speak up and say what you are and are not willing to do. You don't have to do what he says if you don't want to. Know this, you have more say than you probably realize.

My advice? Go talk to your doctor about north control and research one that works for you. Learn how to use birth control efficiently and effectively. Perhaps combine a couple forms that make sense to protect yourself from both STIs and pregnancy. Educate yourself about the combinations that dont work, for example, the condom for a penis and the internal condom; Those two should not be used together.

Again, if you're asking a question like this then you're engaging in risky behavior. Use the new knowledge and minimize the risk.

I'm not clear on what you're trying to describe - 1st week of the patch? with the fourth week off??? I see ?consistent? and that is always good but the rest isn't clear.

If you are using the patch according to your physician's instructions, then it's not likely, BUT, it's always *possible* - usually because of user error and/or not following instructions.

That said, if you ever want to give yourself extra protection when you are using the patch, then use a condom or internal condom as well.

Should you tell your parents that you got your period? Why wouldn't you? Do you have any indication that telling them might not be safe or something? Have they given you the impression that this kind of sharing isn't okay?

In a family where one is able to share or speak openly, this conversation should be okay. But since I don't know where you are in the world, nor the prevailing ideas about menstruation there, and based on the fact that you're asking this question I sense you cannot.

Do you have a trusted adult or doctor in your life? If you cannot tell your parents, it would be good to tell them. There is knowledge you need to have to manage your cycle, like timing your cycle to anticipate it for the next months, what kinds of menstrual care products you can use and how to use them, and information about what to expect throughout the month. They can help you with this. Just simply say, I have started menstruating and I'm not sure what to do. What tips or advice do you have for me?? And they can help out.

(Congratulations. Your body is maturing into adulthood. :D)

I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to ask, so I'll attempt to answer.

From a day to day perspective, while I menstruate, I handle my partner just like any other day. I don't experience severe PMS symptoms so our months are pretty routine.

If you mean sexually, I am thankfully partnered with someone who doesn't mind if I have my period when we want to have sex. He is genuinely not bothered (and it's frickin AMAZING. Could not have a better partner for me!).

Thank you for the A2A

How would I feel if I were told I'm pregnant at my regular check up? Shocked. Surprised.

I had a tubal ligation (a sterilization procedure for people who can get pregnant) 15 years ago so that would mean that my Fallopian tubes would have self-healed to enable an ovum to pass through and get fertilized by sperm.

So yeah. I'd be shocked. But in my current relationship I'd be pleased as well (Even though I'm really too old to have a baby).

The first response I have to this is: go see your physician/doctor. No need to ask us here. Heaven forbid this constant bleeding portends something much more serious or risky to your health.

Please. Go talk to someone in person and have a proper and thorough examination by someone qualified to do so IRL. Quora is not the forum for this.

People who menstruate have cycles of varying lengths (a range roughly of 26 days to 35 days per cycle). Given that, then a period can occur on any day in the month, a different date every month even.

I know it might be scary, especially if your pediatrician is recommending you go to a specialist, but try not to worry too much. It's possible she is just an early menstruator.

There are kids as young as 8 who get their periods. How old were you when you got yours?

Unless this bleeding is actually due to an injury (or heaven forbid, abuse), you don't need to worry. Just give her these things:

love and support she needs,
reassure her that she is fine (some kids think they're dying!),
Tell her that ~10% of kids who have a uterus get theirs around this age too,
Teach her to track her cycle so she can be prepared for it next month,
Give her information about pads, tampons, silicone menstrual cups, and reusable underwear so she knows how to handle it again when it happens,
And Show her the art of getting blood stains out of her underwear.
Menstruation is a fact of life for folks who have a uterus. She just has to learn a little earlier than some others.

Maybe shift the perspective and get her a little Red Velvet Cupcake and celebrate her step into puberty. Celebrate her!

Edited to add: I actually did this celebration with my kids. We had the plan for a while: Happy Dot Day!
