Dommes & Sub Sandwiches

Happened yesterday in my house:

Dinner time. The girls and I were in the kitchen in a flurry of activity making sandwiches and soup for this cold and rainy day in Northern California. I sliced a couple fresh slices off a new loaf of bread for my partner and called into the living room for him that his bread was ready. When he came into the kitchen, he asked, “where’s my sandwich” in a sort of business-like way, presuming I made the whole thing. I teased, “I won’t make you a sandwich, but I will make you a sub.” Marcia understood the joke right away.

But Cindy asked me what I meant. I explained that sub was short for submissive in sexual terms. Before proceeding, I wanted to determine what she already knew so I asked, “what’s the opposite of dominant?”  Immediately her response:

“Recessive”.

My little Cindy.

We all laughed huge belly laughs. The realization that her 7th grade class had just covered genetics and heredity in science class – her answer totally made sense.

These little incidents occur on a pretty regular basis. All are opportunities to giggle, joke, and ultimately teach. More importantly, opportunities to build closeness and intimacy and the ability to tell things to each other and not feel shame or judgment.
